Categories: Pirates of the Caribbean, Slash

Rating: PG13.

Fandom/Spoilers: Pirates of the Caribbean.

Summary: Jack/Gillette. Gillette will always remember this day.

Disclaimer: Disney, not me.

Notes: Written in 30 minutes for the contrelamontre line of poetry challenge.

And all should cry, Beware! Beware!
His flashing eyes, his floating hair!
-- Kubla Khan, Samuel Taylor Coleridge

They finally ran Jack Sparrow to ground in New Providence. Lieutenant Gillette was the one to lay hands on Jack, down a dark and foetid alley.

"Yes, yes," said Jack and spread his hands wide. "My compliments to the King's Navy."

Gillette had Jack by one shoulder. One filthy shoulder. Gillette almost shuddered. This time he'd see that Jack was bathed before he was hanged. "Come," he said and yanked Jack forward.

"Have mercy," Jack said and swayed back against a wall. "I'm a tiny bit unsteady at the moment." He passed a hand over his forehead. "You wouldn't have your rum ration on you, by happy chance?" He leaned in and gave Gillette the full benefit of his breath. "Hair of the dog," Jack confided.

"Certainly not," Gillette said and yanked Jack upright. "Now, march."

Jack grimaced. "Patience, Lieutenant. I'm in a delicate condition." He put his arm around Gillette's shoulders. "If you'll just give me a moment--"

"What do you need a moment for?" Gillette was anxious to get Jack back to the Commodore. Anxious to receive his praise.

"For this, Lieutenant," Jack said and swung around, throwing his weight on Gillette. Staggering, Gillette got a sudden close view of Jack's wild eyes and then Jack's mouth was on his and Gillette realised that Jack was kissing him.

Gillette felt he was at a tactical disadvantage. Not to mention Jack was the worst thing he had ever tasted. When Jack's hand squeezed Gillette's arse, Gillette realised he hadn't actually stopped Jack yet. And that Jack had put his tongue into Gillette's mouth. And that Gillette had let him.

He pushed Jack away and went for his pistol. But it was in Jack's hand now and Jack's eyes were glinting over the barrel.

"I don't think I'll be joining you today, love," Jack said, smiling. "But if you'd like to come along with me, I'm sure I could find you a ... position among my crew."

Gillette couldn't speak. His breath was trapped inside his body and his arms wouldn't move.

"No?" Jack said, backing away. "My respects to the Commodore, then, and to you--" He blew a kiss to Gillette and then he was gone.

Lieutenant Gillette sat down on a heap of trash and didn't move until his men found him half an hour later.

You've done it again...and in 30 minutes.
Thank you for making Star Wars and Pirates (and all the others) even more enjoyable. You really breathe life into your characters...and what a life!

More Gillette, please. With Norrington is lovely, but I leave it up to you and your muse.

Kathy @ September 08, 2003

your gay man yo jacks madd cool you cant make him gay your fucked up!

AmBeR @ September 12, 2003

Actually honey, I think it's all very funny, because it's just the kind of thing Jack would do. Only one problem... HE DID IT TO A MAN! Jack is not gay, it's totally crazy to have him french kiss a guy! I think you shouldn't leave this round, mate, it's not what Jack's fans (And lucky I'm not agressive!) want to see, so beware hon!

Tasmin @ September 15, 2003

Thanks matey.
The Jack bit was heaps cool, but Gillete? Why HIM? He was such an unimportant character.
It's still good o though!

Nat @ September 24, 2003

This is great! I (hetero woman) laughed and swooned both! Totally unexpected and therefore even more exciting. Don't listen to those who will say that Jack is not gay. That's a meaningless thing to say. He is not *real*; he could love moose for all we know. Delightful little story.

Karen @ September 28, 2003

Wonderful stuff; I'm sorry about the oddly large number of anti-slashers who commented. Who are they, anyway? -shakes head- Gillette happens to be a favorite of mine. He's kind of like Velma (of Scooby-Doo). You know, neat but doesn't get much play.

@ September 30, 2003

You should really write more Pirates of the Caribbean fan fic. Write some Nc-17, lots of it! I want to see Will/Elizabeth stories! Or Comandeer Norington/Jack sparrow. That would be sweet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@ October 04, 2003

Let's face it. Jack is going to be whatever suits his purpose at the time. Why limit himself?

Gillette + slash = the greatest idea of all time.
Thankyouthankyouthankyou!

Jack Sparrow is not gay...ok??
Get it into your head that a gay romance between Jack and Gillete is as much a turn on as being rubbed with a raw chicken...got it??
good

it was good and it seems like something jack would do...except for the tongue...thats a not likely...but its kinda like when bugs bunny kisses elmer fudd...distraction...but jack isnt gay...and neither is bugs...so ya...

nutter @ January 02, 2004

hey hey hey just wanted to say (wow that rymes, am i COOOL or WHAT???) that jack is soooooo NOT gay and that it's totally creepy for him to be kissing Gillete.....now if he was kissin a woman, MAYBE that would be ok, but not Gillete....WHY Gillete????? :|

PinkBaboon207 @ January 26, 2004

I wasn't even going to comment, until I saw all the anti-slasher remarks posted above. I think that it's very funny they all think that Jack is straight. Jack is the gayest gay pirate to ever nance down a pole. And do I love him for it.

The Evil Overlord @ February 01, 2004

When I read your story, I never thought that Jack was gay, just doing the unexpected to throw Gillette off center long enough to get his pistol. He does what ever is necessary.

wooops, a very fine idea........Navy+pirates+slash, hmmmmm..... interesting.....could you please do a little bit of sparrington, please? the dirtier the better;)

I,m (not) captain Jack Sparrow @ May 30, 2004

Oh..that was... sooooo PERFECT
perfectly in character, perfectly hilarious, perfectly wonderful.

Inarae @ June 27, 2004

Just read all the comments...
Am I just strange? I didn't get any "Jack is gay" vibes out of the story at all (not that I have any objection to gay fic, mind you :-) ). Jack just likes driving people insane, keeping them off balance. Oh, and he likes staying alive and out of jail. Willing to do oh, just about anything to keep those particular situations, I imagine. He'd have done the exact same whether he liked girls, guys, or octupi.

Inarae @ June 27, 2004

To Nutzy: I like being rubbed with raw chickens!
I saw it as a Bugs Bunny smooching Elmer Fudd kinda thing (that's why it's called "Tactics," savvy?), but I'm not gonna thingy on the sexuality of a fictional character (I say he's bi, but that's just me.). If you write it plausible-like and in-chara, that's all that's needed.
"Sharp as a razor, he is!" -me, watching POTC, every time Gillette was mentioned by name. I can't be the only person who thought of this?

Weird Kitty Blue @ July 08, 2004

Jack can be whatever the hell he wants to be! Gay, Straight, Bie who the fuck cares?!!!!! He's Captain Jack Sparrow! And I must say Gillette is a fool to turn him down!

Jade @ August 02, 2004

Okay I am with those that didn't get the whole Jack is gay thing. I thought he was doing what any good pirate would do to get out of a hanging, anything possible.
(Though him being bi isn't to crazy of an idea, because in history most pirates were either bi or gay. Comes from spending more time on a ship with all guys than on shore with women. That is just from what I have studied, though other things might come up with further investigation.)

Arlie @ August 16, 2004

I thought that it was good! Defenitely a twist in the plot, but like the others I didn't get a sense of Jack being gay. Jack is Jack and there is no way of characterizing him as anything else. Good Job, and don't listen to the slashers!

Sam @ October 08, 2004

Of course Jack's gay. He's camp. And for this, he rocks. Jack swings both ways and loves to throw people off. Jack/Gillette is really underwritten...Jack/Norrington is the bestest.

Blayze @ November 07, 2004

Sweet.

I loved it, even though I completely ship Norrington/Jack. Squee. This would be something that Jack would do. *nods* You're a genius! XD

frostywonder @ November 11, 2004

It was good, great detail and everything. but the thing with jack being gay like that. i'm sry. that nearly broke all my dreams. but it was good aside from the fact that jack kissed him.

Roxanne @ November 24, 2004

"Enough of this gay banter!"

I loved it. Brilliant twist. Brilliant characterisation of Jack. My favourite bit? 'Jack was the worst thing he'd ever tasted.' Fantastic.

Ervinai @ January 04, 2005

ooh, I can't believe I'd missed this one. I love it--perfect characterization. Poor Gillette.

Hal, I am in such awe of your writing. No one does Han/Lando or Ford/Arthur like you do. If you wrote Sparrow/Norrington, I would mail you what's left of my soul. Or cookies. Your choice.

another Niven fan @ July 13, 2005

omg, i absolutely loved this story. it was brilliant to bring a character that wasn't much talked about in the movie into the light. AND, of course, have him make out with lovely jack. you, know, in movies, i always see characters being gay. i have a gay "fetish", if that's what you want to call it. which is why i love fanfiction so much. and i've got to hand it to you Hal, your fanfic has to be the best out there. major kudos!
oh, and all of you "anti-slasher" people, ummm, i think you should take a moment to look into yourselves. the stories clearly said "SLASH". if you don't like to see gay characters, why SEARCH for fanfiction (which hopefully you know will contain slash), and then read it? Qu'est-ce que la pointe? (what is the point?) if you don't like slash, don't read it! it is simple enough. please don't burden us devoted fans with your flaming. in addition, i happen to be a completely straight woman, and i like gay men, ok? im glad we had this talk. until i find you in my closet, au revoir.
~peace~

*I sold my soul to a gay pirate* @ January 15, 2006

ur soooo FUCKED UP
how dare you make JACK GAY
i HATE U

Cheza La Fay @ July 04, 2006

Darling, the anti-slashers amuse me so. I'm glad I stumbled upon this, just so I could be reminded how idiotic they all are.

What they fail to realize (among many thing, most of which have been posted by those before me) is that Jack Sparrow is a character created for amusement. And fanfiction was created by those who needed an outlet. Some people see Jack as flamboyantly gay, and so let them write it. Others as strictly and deliciously straight, and let them have that way. Most people realize that pirates went for whatever they could get a lot of the time, and good man or not, Jack IS a pirate.

Point here is, we all live in our own little fantasy worlds when it comes to these characters, and we make them however we would like to.

Cute, amusing little snippet, and I thank you for posting. (Who cares what they all think, anyway. Bringing their prejudices from REAL life into fanFICTION is ridiculous.)
~love and rum for all~

Juliet @ July 15, 2006

Speaking as a not-entirely-straight person myself, I'd rather have them aiming their prejudices at the fan fiction than at real life, because the real life they're prejudiced against is mine. Unfortunately, it's not a choice: they freak out about the idea of Jack Sparrow being gay because they freak out about ANYone being gay. Bastards.

Juliet's right: it is a nice drabblet; it's clever and sexy and hilarious and not entirely unrealistic, which last one is the best part. Thanks for writing; I'd love to see more.
